Wednesday Word

Today, September 8, was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. It was first celebrated in 1966. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Imagine, only 60% of Africa's Sub-Sahara population can read or write, compared to Europe where it is 99,1%. In Burkina Faso only 12% of the adult population can write a letter and in Mali only 19% of the adults can read a book. That as such can explain main parts in the backwarded position of the African continent in the world. In our information and media dominated society we face a simple rule: "knowledge is power". Once you are excluded from basic sources of information, you are basically excluded from the dominating society. In other words: literacy is a basic human right and should be promoted. Education should be equally leveld  all over the world.
To elaborate on this fact a bit more, the power of knowledge does not only come with literacy but also with the variety of news sources we'll be provided in. A diversity in sources and opinions will create a more open society and emancipate the free thinking society. We need to know opinions from left and right, rich and poor, government and street to realy understand our position and contribute in person to an outweighed opinion. The well educated man/ woman will be capable of changing the system for a better world.
AngelTrust is supporting literacy to the fullest and calls out for reading 1 newspaper and 1 chapter of your favorite book today. Word!
The Malawi gay couple PDF Print E-mail
Written by Albert Kamau
Steven Monjeza, 26, and 20-year-old Tiwonge Chimbalanga were convicted of unnatural acts and gross indecency, prompting anger and condemnation from activists in Malawi and around the world, including Madonna. The couple had been convicted prison for 14 years with hard labour. You could say that is always better than being offered a death penalty in Uganda, but still...
The Malawi gay couple got released just the other day, by interference of UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon. Half of the world is cheering reliefs, the other would rather have them sentenced for life. AngelTrust, on this Wednesday, is asking you if we should judge on men for their sexual preferences. If you was to be falling in love with an equal sexe... Would you be able to understand, to accept, even to enjoy? If love is involved, if love is sincere, who is the one to judge on it.. Love is a priviledged human right.

Albinos stuck in the lights PDF Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Some witch doctors claim the body parts of albinos bring good luck in love, life and business. In Burundi and Tanzania the witch hunt continues: albino men, women and children have to fear for their life because of a humiliating myth, and the government seems reluctant to take proper actions.
On this day last year a trial had begun in Burundi of 11 defendants accused of attacking and killing 12 albino people, starting with the murder of a young girl. And today, what else could we have expected, the suspects are still enjoying their freedom.
Just try to imagine the faith of an albino person or even family. Most probably you face social exclusion: being abandoned from your local community and hiding out somewhere in the woods with other 'victims' of this natural born disorder. Most probably you will be haunted like animals by all those believing your legs and arms can create prosperity. Or you will at least be raped, because sex with albinos is supposed to cure HIV/Aids.
We are asking you, can this utterly humiliating myth be abandoned? Can we try to understand each other as human beings instead of the children of higher and lesser Gods? Have albinos accepted as your neighbours and report discrimination or humiliations against them to authorities. Respect human life.
